Program: Sixteen Waltzes for Piano Four-Hands, Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
Biographies of the musicians: A native of Rochester, New York, David Curtin earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Prior to his appointment to the music faculty of Lock Haven University, Dr. Curtin served on the faculty of several U.S. universities. He has performed recitals and taught throughout the U.S., as well as in Korea, China, Ireland, England, and Mexico. Recent performances include appearances as soloist with the Ohio Valley Symphony in Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major, multiple engagements with the East Mountain Artist Series in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and recitals at historic Steinway Hall in New York City. For the past three years he has been invited to perform recitals and give master classes as part of the annual festival of the International Schools Choral Music Society in Beijing, China, where he also spent a week as Artist-in-Residence at the International School in 2011.
Korean-born Hyun Ju Curtin earned her Artist diploma in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and also completed many requirements for the D.M.A. there. Hyun Ju has performed concerti, chamber music, and solo recitals throughout the U.S. and Korea, where she performed with several symphony orchestras. An avid chamber musician, she was a founding member of the Escalante Piano Trio in Utah, and has performed in the Grandin Festival in Cincinnati and on the Carnegie Concert Series in Michigan. Hyun Ju has appeared frequently on the Chamber Music Series at Lock Haven University with various local musicians. She has also served on the piano faculty of universities in Korea and in Utah. With her husband, David Curtin, she has performed in mixed solo and duet recitals in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Steinway Hall in New York City. In 2008 Hyun Ju performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5 with the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra in State College. |
