Construction Progress Updates

May 2013

 

 

Well we have done it. Today, Saturday, May 11, 2013, was the last community painting day as we prepare to complete the building expansion project. Whew! On Monday, the flooring contractor will begin installing the carpeting and linoleum. The only big thing remaining for us is to finish the stairs which will take about a week. If all goes well, we expect to have the building inspected by the end of May and then we will receive our occupancy permit. So in early June we should be starting to use our awesome new space.

 

The entire UUFCC community should be proud of this accomplishment. Through your monetary donations, time, commitment and moral support, we are realizing the next step in the evolution of our UU presence here in Happy Valley. On behalf of the Building Committee we thank you for all that you’ve done and will continue to do. We can’t wait to see all of the activities in our new space.

 

March 2013

The building expansion project is on schedule and continues to take shape. On March 9, an eager crew of volunteers painted the kitchen and much of the casework. We may be able to use the new kitchen by the end of March. There will be more painting opportunities in the next two months, and near the end of the project in April and May, we’ll be installing the flooring. It is an exciting time for the Fellowship!

  UUFCC Building Expansion Project Schedule

Finally construction is under way on our amazing new wing! The excavation went pretty well. Some soft rock was found but was readily removed. The sewer line also needed extra excavation because the drawings from the original construction were off. The foundation will go in next and by next month should be complete. We will need a few people to volunteer soon to stain the boards for the vaulted ceiling – please call or email Andy Lau if you want to help, 814-321-6841, This email address is being protected from spambots. Please do not go within the fenced off areas, nor climb on any of the equipment. If your children are playing outside, please keep an eye on them at all times.

 

 

August 2012

The building expansion project is moving right  along and we’re getting close to the start of construction, which is now projected for the end of September, but possibly earlier than that.  There have been some permitting delays and some small changes made necessary by the review process.  The pre-construction meeting was held Wednesday, August 15 with Veronesi Building and Remodeling, Alan Popovich Architects, Darlene Weener, Ron Smith, and Andy Lau to discuss scheduling and to finalize the contract. Biweekly construction meetings begin August 29. We expect a signed contract within a week.
