Sunday, February 16 at 3 p.m. The Classical Saxophone

Saxophonist David Stambler will perform compositions from the l9th, 20th, and 21st centuries, including recent works that he commissioned and premiered.  Dr. Stambler is on the faculty of the Penn State School of Music and is known for both his classical and jazz performances.

Jules Demersseman--Fantasy on an Original Theme (1866)
 
Paule Maurice and Fernande Decruck were French women musicians and composers who wrote the above pieces for a famous French classical saxophonist, Marcel Mule.  Demersseman, also French, was one of the first French composers to write music for the newly developed saxophone.  He was a close friend of Adolphe Sax, a Belgian instrument maker who invented the saxophone in 1840.  John Anthony Lennon is an American composer who teaches at Emory University in Atlanta.  He is known for his works for classical guitar and saxophone.

Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. Camerata Amistad
State College flutists Cathy Herrera and Diane Gold Toulson and guitarist Brent Register from Clarion University will perform a program featuring pieces by composer of Hispanic origin, Hispanic art music, and traditional Latin American folk music.  Formed in 2006, Camerata Amistad has performed for many audiences in both the United States and Latin America.

Individual tickets are $10 for adults; children and students attend free.

Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m.      Flute and Cello
Penn State faculty flutist Naomi Seidman and her husband, cellist Jonathan Dexter, will present a recital of chamber works spanning the baroque, classical, and 20th century, plus a recent work by Pennsylvania composer, Efrain Amaya.  They will be joined by bassoonist Daryl Durran and other friends.

Individual tickets are $10 for adults; children and students attend free.

Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. An Afternoon of Vocal and Piano Music

Soprano Sarah Shafer andher father, pianist Timothy Shafer, will present works by Haydn, Schumann, Debussy and Wolf.  The program will include songs from the lieder repertoire and solo piano pieces.  Sarah Shafer will be performing the songs from this program in Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City’s Carnegie Hall this season.

The performance will include works composed by George David Weiss, Richard Rogers, George Gershwin, and Ástor Piazzolla.

Talented high school musicians of State College assembled to host a FREE benefit music concert where the earnings will go towards the “Because I am a Girl” initiative. A global initiative of Plan International, “Because I am a Girl” creates sustainable projects in developing countries to give girls access to the most basic of human rights: clean water, food, healthcare, education, financial security, and protection from violence and exploitation. Donations are greatly appreciated.

Jazz Trio: Emma Rohan, Alexander Korte, Zach McGowan.
Piano Trio: Raina Arnett, Anna Miller, Rosaleen Xiong.
String Quartet: Noah Beattie-Moss, Raina Arnett, Alexander Woskob, Charis Lin.
