Activities & Education FAQ

What is 4WGN? Fourth Wednesday Game Night

What we Play: We tend to play modern Euro-Games. Most of these come from Europe, especially Germany. Players still try to win, but may need to be nice to their friends, even help them, in order to do well…sort of like real life. And many take only a few minutes to learn and an hour or so to play. Yet the strategy is deep enough for even a dedicated gamer.   Look at the Boardgame Geek for some of our favorites: Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan, TransAmerica, Galloping Pigs, Power Grid, Word Thief, Bohnanza, Ticket to Ride and many more.

Who Should Attend: This event is designed for teens and adults; we’re glad to have anyone interested in playing the same game for an hour or so.

Where and When: We play the 4th Wednesday of every month . We start about 6pm and usually continue until 11pm, but you don’t have to be there the whole time. Feel free to arrive late or leave early.

T
reats: We bring game-friendly (non-greasy) finger foods. We have a No-Open-Drinks-Near-The-Games rule, but your capped bottle of water or pop is fine.

What are Hospitality Teams?

Hospitality Teams were formed in order to get the normal Sunday morning jobs done efficiently and fairly in a spirit of camaraderie, cooperation, and friendship.  We have 6 Teams that handle Sunday morning activities for 4 weeks at a time.  These activities include: Greeters, Ushers, Coffee Makers, Visual Display and Cleanup.  Check here for more details on these activities.   Look here for schedule of Teams this year. For more information or to sign up for a Team, contact Betsy & Chuck Berry.

Anyone from Central PA can find comfort and laughter in this non-religious group.  INTERWEAVE meets on the second Saturday each month for food and fellowshipping at the UUFCC. Potlucks begin at 6 p.m. followed by entertainment and/or discussion at 7 p.m.

See Calendar for dates.  INTERWEAVE is a UUA -affiliated program.  Interweave usually does not meet in June, July or August.  Contact John Chubb for more information.

What is the Meditation Satsang?

Satsang is a Sanskrit word which means literally “spiritual fellowship.” It also takes the form of hearing or reading inspirational passages, reflecting on, discussing and assimilating their meaning, and bringing this awareness into one’s daily life. For those who are practicing meditation and seeking to change their lives, it is helpful, if possible, to make time for regular association with others with similar goals and values.

If you are interested, please read the book   Meditation: A Simple 8-Point Program for Translating Spiritual Ideals into Daily Life    by Eknath Easwaran.    It is available in the Fellowship Library under the topic “Meditation.”

A group of us who share a commitment to the practice of meditation and the 8-Point Program of spiritual living described in Easwaran’s book meet the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7 to 9pm to support each other, to be inspired together, and meditate together.

The Satsang format generally follows this outline:

    20 minutes of fellowship

30 minutes of inspiration, direct from Sri Easwaran via books or tapes

    30 minutes of meditation

We ask that you affirm your commitment to this program by meditating daily for 30 minutes for at least 30 days before attending the Satsang.

What is the Spring Retreat?

A weekend of fun and fellowship, usually in June.  What's it all about? Good food, great fun, conversation and relaxation! It's not just for "outdoorsy" folks; there's fun for everyone!   Can you lead campfire songs or a workshop on poetry? Can you teach us how to go Geocaching? Have you prepared your act for the talent show? Maybe you have an idea of your own, for something new to do? Call Karen Norris  or Paula Marden for more information.

What is UU 101?
